Lahore: Police chief warns land grabbers

CAPITAL City Police Chief Muhammad Pervez Rathore has warned the operators of qabza mafia to evacuate the illegally occupied properties or face action.

Addressing an open court at Noori Masjid, Subzazar, on Wednesday, he said that notorious members of qabza mafia had been arrested from various parts of the city following the directions of Punjab chief minister. He said that any police officer or official, who dared patronise the qabza mafia would be taken to task.

He said that he would visit all parts of the city and hold open courts for the provision of justice and bridling the criminal elements.

He said that strict measures were being taken against the persons involved in one-dish meal violation as the Lahore police had registered 40 cases and arrested 47 persons in this regard.

He said the police had waged jihad to clean the provincial metropolis from criminals and the police had also registered 42 cases against the professional surety touts.

The CCPO listened to the complainants’ grievances and issued orders on the spot. On the complaint of Muhammad Israr, a resident of Manga Mandi, the CCPO directed the Sadar SP to provide him relief immediately. He also ordered the Manga Mandi DSP to register a case against a person who alleged refused to pay back borrowed money to a complainant, Muhammad Lateef, a resident of Manga Mandi. On the complaint of Mumtaz Bagum, a resident of Subazazar, the CCPO directed the Sadar SP to take legal action against the squatters. The CCPO also directed the Sadar investigation SP to ensure justice in the case of Mansoor ul Aziz of Subzazar.

Two houses gutted: Valuables worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in two houses on Wednesday. A fire erupted in a house in the Defence A area and it burnt valuables worth thousands of rupees.

The other incident of fire occurred in the house of Shahid Butt at Bhagwan Bazaar, Gawalmandi. Cause of fire in both incidents was stated to short circuit.

Body found: Naulakha police found the body of a 35-year old man, unidentified so far, from Domoria Pul on Wednesday. Police said he was an addict who died of cold weather. The body was shifted to morgue.
