Mobile courts ordinance:Law Minister was unaware of National Assembly session, Sherry
ISLAMABAD (March 04 2009): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman on Tuesday said that Law Minister Farooq Naek was unaware of the National Assembly session that led to the promulgation of mobile courts ordinance by President Asif Ali Zardari. Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, she said that it was decided by the government to raise and solve the issue on the floor of the house.
"I was aware a day before that this issue would be raised by the Prime Minister in the National Assembly session and that's why he advised the President to withdraw the ordinance," she added. She said that said both PPP and PML-N want political reconciliation as they know the country cannot afford a confrontation at such a critical juncture. She termed the attack in Lahore on the Sri Lankan cricket team as highly unfortunate and ghastly. It is premature to blame anyone at this point because investigations are still going on, said Sherry. "The courageous police personnel of Lahore laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect the Sri Lankan players and that is the strongest demonstration of the government's strong security arrangements being in place," she added. http://www.brecorder.com/index.php?id=905518 |
