Pakistani physician selected for WHO World No Tobacco Award 2009
KARACHI: A Pakistani physician, Prof Javaid A Khan, would be one of the recipients of the World No Tobacco Award 2009, sponsored by the World Health Organisation. The prestigious award is conferred upon individuals who have tremendously contributed towards tobacco control in their respective countries. “You have been a great source of inspiration in tobacco control advocacy and research at a national level,” said a WHO statement received by Aga Khan University Medicine Department National Alliance for Tobacco Control Chairman and Pulmonary and Critical Section Head Dr Javaid A Khan. WHO Representative to Pakistan, Dr Khalf Bille Mohammad, in his letter of felicitation to Dr Khan said, “The award speaks for itself of the recognition of your services at the international level.” Khan will receive the award and a certificate of appreciation at an impressive WHO ceremony in Islamabad on May 31. app
