68% Pakistanis listen to music on cassettes: Gallup
Majority of Pakistanis claimed to listen music on cassettes while a number of respondents also buy CDs, revealed a survey.
According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 68 per cent Pakistanis claimed to listen to music on cassettes a significant 55 per cent of the respondents also claimed to listen to music on CDs. However, 49 percent claimed to buy cassettes of Pakistani songs, 41 per cent buy cassettes of Indian music, five per cent said they buy cassettes of English songs or some other kind of music. Thirty nine per cent claimed of buying Indian music CDs, 24 per cent buy CDs of Pakistani music, 11 per cent buy English songs CDs and 7 per cent buy CDs of some other kind of music. A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked “Do you buy cassettes of Pakistan songs or Indian songs?” Twenty three per cent (23%) gave no response where as 9% do not but any cassettes. The findings show that a proportionately higher percentage of rural population (54%) than urbanites (42%) claimed to buy Pakistani music cassettes. When the respondents were asked about their CD buying habits, the results show that 55% respondents buy CDs to listen the music. Among these 39% claimed to but Indian music CDs where as 24% but CDs of Pakistani music. Eleven per cent (11%) but English songs CDs and 7% but CDs of some other kind of music.
