'Pakistan Army believes in supremacy of parliament': Haqqani showers praises on army
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army believes in the supremacy of parliament, Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani has said.
“The military, for the first time, is very clear that sovereignty of parliament has to be ensured and it is the correct place to debate the Kerry-Lugar bill,” he said in an interview with CNN. “Pakistan's elected representatives, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and their appointees in the government respect the army's opinion but the final decision is going to be taken by parliament,” he added. To a question on US-Pakistan cooperation in the war on terror, he said Pakistan wants the US to help it eliminate Al Qaeda from the region. Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and was playing a key role in the war against terrorism, he added. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_20 |
