DHA Karachi launches new City housing scheme
Associated Press of Pakistan
The new residential cum commercial scheme launched by Defence Housing Authority on Super Highway under the name and style of DHA City lies in a natural wind corridor having abundance of sunshine, a DHA statement said here on Tuesday. It said that the solar and wind potential in the area can be tapped and utilized effectively for development of sustainable renewable energy for DHA. The statement said that the President Executive Board (PEB) DHA and Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Shahid Iqbal, has asked DHA to make optimum use of available natural resources for alternate development of sustainable renewable energy. He said that focused and innovative efforts towards that direction would help in developing a cost effective, indigenous and pragmatic solar cum wind technology for power generation. This would be a major breakthrough and help to overcome the elusive energy crisis in the country, the statement added. PEB directed DHA to develop an indigenous technology through innovative skills for developing solar panels and wind turbines at a cost effective price which could cater to the power requirements of a three bedroom house with a one ton AC. He also asked DHA to develop LED panels which could be operated through renewable solar energy for street lighting. He emphasised the need for modifying the customised technology to local environment. He said that proto-type models developed in research lab should gradually graduate to the development, manufacturing and implementation stages. The electronic and mechanical labs have been equipped to assist in development of renewable energy to achieve its sustainable growth in DHA. The purported aim of the setup established is to provide pathway for promoting new concepts and ideas for designing solar panels and wind turbines to cater for the renewable power solutions. The cost effective manufacturing of renewable energy equipment will be a way forward in making a breakthrough in the field. |
