Property tax to be rationalised: CDA chief
ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) is considering to rationalising the property tax and water charges, but taxes would be levied in consultation with the stakeholders and general public, said CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi on Tuesday.
CDA Revenue Directorate has crossed the revenue collection target fixed for the fiscal year 2009-10. Elahi appreciated the officers and officials of the Revenue Directorate in a meeting held at CDA Headquarters to review revenue collection during the outgoing fiscal year and targets set for the next fiscal year. CDA board members and officers of Finance Wing and Revenue Directorate attended the meeting. The chairman said a target Rs 913.3 million was set for the fiscal year 2009-10, however, the Directorate of Revenue collected Rs.928.094 million on account of property tax and water charges, which is more than the targeted amount. The meeting informed the chairman that revenue collection campaign was advertised through media, while the offices of Revenue Directorate remained opened till late hours during the month of June this year even during the holidays, which facilitated the taxpayers to deposit their taxes. Elahi said CDA was a municipal body responsible for provision of civic amenities to the citizens. He said it was also responsibility of the residents to pay their taxes well in time so that they could be facilitated with all sorts of amenities. He said that revenue collection target of Rs 1135 million on account of property tax and water charges had been set for the current fiscal year. |
