Smooth flow of traffic to be ensured on Ring Road Lahore: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that an effective system should be evolved to prevent accidents and ensure smooth flow of traffic on Lahore Ring Road and the model of Motorway Police should be adopted in this regard. He directed that maximum pedestrians bridges be built on Ring Road to facilitate the people and civil works be completed by October 15. He was presiding over a meeting regarding Ring Road here on Wednesday. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Ring Road project has not only provided better communication facilities to the people but will have far reaching effects on the economy of the province. He said that civil works on different packages of Ring Road should be completed by mid October. He said that transparent use of funds and quality of work on all development projects should be ensured as we cannot afford to waste even a single penny in the current financial conditions. He said that the traffic system for Lahore Ring Road should be corruption-free and better performance of staff needs to be ensured. He said that steps should also be taken to install cameras as well as an ambulance service to deal with any emergency. He said that new vacancies cannot be created and new vehicles cannot be purchased for Ring Road traffic system in the current financial conditions, therefore police department should utilize the available resources. He praised the proposals of Chief Traffic Officer Capt ® Syed Ahmad Mubin regarding the proposed traffic system for Ring Road and said that a comprehensive plan should be prepared in the light of these proposals. The Chief Minister appreciated horticulture work on Ring Road and said that DG PHA has played an important role in the beautification of the Road which has not only enhanced the glory of the city but has also provided better environment to the people. He sought proposals regarding setting up of a parking area at a suitable place, coffee shops and cold drink corners at Ring Road package near airport. He said that steps should also be taken to set up greenbelts in other areas of the city. The Chief Minister lauded DG PHA for his excellent performance. Earlier, Project Director Khusro Pervaiz gave a detailed briefing regarding civil works on different packages of Ring Road. He said that survey has been completed for expansion of Bhatta Chowk while two pedestrians bridges are under construction on Ferozpur Road. DG PHA Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, while giving briefing about horticulture on Ring Road, said that greenbelts have been set up on 43 more roads, in addition to 38 roads, and 150,000 saplings have been planted. MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmad, MPA Rana Tajamal Hussain, Project Director & Commissioner Lahore Division, Chairman Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, Director Generals of LDA and PHA, DCO, NESPAK representatives and senior officers concerned were also present on the occasion. |
