Ghee prices increase in city
LAHORE: Banaspati ghee prices have increased in the city markets by Rs 7 to 13 depending upon various brands in last one week, Daily Times learnt on Friday. Following the increase in the palm oil prices in the international market, one kilogramme Sufi banaspati ghee’s price had been increased from Rs 137 to 150, Dalda banaspati Rs 142 to 155, Shan cooking oil and ghee Rs 130 to 138, while the prices of 16-kg tin of three brands, Askari, Shan and Kiran had been increased from Rs 2040 to 2130. Earlier, the price of vegetable ghee was increased in the beginning of Ramazan from Rs 112 to 130 per kilogramme. Sheer Khan, owner of Zaman Super Store in Firdous Market Gulberg, said that the price was increased due to a sudden surge in palm oil prices in the international market. “Customers are really worried due to the increase in vegetable ghee and oil prices because ghee is one of the daily-used items,” he said. However 20-kilogramme flour bag prices had been decreased by Rs 25 during this week and sugar is being sold for Rs 80 per kg, he said. Consumers, who were purchasing ghee and other edible items, condemned the government for lacking a will to control inflation.
