Commuters facing transport scarcity
ISLAMABAD: Commuters are facing problems due to shortage of transport on different routes of federal capital.
A large number of private and government employees coming from suburbs of both cities reach their respective offices through private transport and most of the times they have to travel on rooftops of the busses due to shortage of route specific vehicles. Hajra Bibi, a government employee, said the female commuters specially had to wait for long to find a proper seat due to which they often reached their offices late. She said that the concerned authorities should deploy sufficient transport on the routes to reduce the problems of commuters. Another commuter Aftab Khan, complained that he often wastes from half hour to one hour in getting a seat in the vans plying on route number 21. Mohammad Ali, a student said the school and college buses ply only on specific routes and he had to use local transport to reach his college. Commuters further complained that particularly women and aged persons are facing problems due to the shortage of transport, plying on different routes between twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Thousands of passengers travel daily between Rawalpindi and Islamabad by public transport, but due to shortage of vehicles, most of them get late from their duties. Abida Mir, an employee said that front seats of vans are reserved for women, but the drivers allow the males on those seats. She urged the authorities to take immediate measures against violation and asked to launch more transport services to overcome the problem. Commuters demanded the concerned authorities to start new routes between twin cities. They demanded the authorities to allocate special fund in the next budget to launch efficient transport service to fulfill the long-standing demand of twin cities residents. They also urged the concerned authorities to devise a comprehensive strategy for facilitating reliable and comfortable transport service to the commuters. |
