Punjab to computerise land record
LAHORE – The Land Revenue Department will complete the process of land record computerisation by 2014, besides introducing a new service cadre to replace patwaris and tehsildars in Punjab.
This was stated by Land Record Management Information System Director Muhammad Usman during a seminar. He said that the land revenue department is working on the task of computerising the whole agricultural land of the province, adding that in the aftermath of the flash floods, farmers usually complained of changes in boundary of their properties. He pointed out that after the computerisation of the rural land, its link will be developed with satellite, leaving no path for any corruption in future. The representative of the National Disaster Management Authority Punjab Mian Nisar Ahmed said ‘we are developing a liaison with all concerned departments to cope with the catastrophe in future. He said that hundreds of volunteers were trained in the flooded areas of District Layyah and Muzaffar Garh. He said that the DDMA has registered the district level rescue members, who will be alert in the time of any disaster. He complained of unavailability of finance to render trainings, besides implementation of their plans to rehabilitate the affectees. Abdul Ghaffar, the director Social Welfare, said that flooding has forced many out of their homes and into camps across the country. Sahibzad Khan from the Met Office said the recent flooding in Pakistan has affected more than 20 million people. Superintendent Engineer, Irrigation Department, Khawar Nadim called for the support those organisations and the agencies, who are working to address the needs of women and girls in the aftermath of the floods in Pakistan. |
