DA curtails non-development expenditure: Farkhand
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has curtailed non-development expenditure and will execute public-welfare projects in the future, seeking sustainable sources of income through a well-organised financial management system. This was stated by the CDA Chairman Engineer Farkhand Iqbal during a meeting with a 40-member delegation of probationary officers of the District Management Group (DMG) from Civil Services Academy, Lahore, who visited the CDA Headquarters on Monday. The chairman said that the CDA was taking concrete measures to improve its financial health under the short- and long-term strategies. The CDA was the first municipality of the country that was contemplating to launch municipal bonds to finance its development projects, and all work in this regard had already been completed, he said. Farkhand said that a self-sustainable policy had been adopted to execute projects of different nature so that dependency on government resources could be avoided. He said that the authority had reduced its non-development expenditures to a great extent, especially in the head of telephone and fuel charges. He said that more funds had been allocated for developing and upgrading under-developed sectors and markets, adding that development projects would be executed after seeking recommendations from the city’s residents. The chairman said that provision of quality services was being ensured besides development activities in the stalled sectors on priority to overcome the housing units shortfall in the federal capital. “Water conservation has been initiated to save water for summer season,” he said, adding that a new road was being constructed to facilitate the people coming from Peshawar. Environment Member Mian Waheeduddin briefed the delegation on the function of the civic agency, its administrative structure, financial affairs and development of the city. He informed the delegation that the CDA was developing the city in line with a master plan, and had completed many mega projects during the recent years, while some of the projects were in progress |
