‘Roti’ now also available for Rs1.50 at some places
by Khalid Iqbal
Rawalpindi A couple of ‘tandoor’ owners have started selling a ‘roti’ of 100-gram for Rs1.50 in Chaman Zar Colony and Gharibabad bringing more relief for inflation hit citizens. Both the owners of the ‘tandoors’ also announced that they would sell a 100-gram ‘roti’ at 99 paisas (round figure Rs1) on Fridays. According to a survey conducted by ‘The News’ there was a great competition among ‘tandoor’ owners after the launch of ‘sasta tandoors’. Sheraz Ali, owner of a ‘tandoor’ selling a ‘roti’ for Rs1.50 in Chaman Zar Colony told ‘The News’ that other ‘naanbais’ came to his ‘tandoor’, tore off the banner displaying sale of a 100-gram ‘roti’ for Rs1.50 and beat him up. He alleged that they also warned him of dire consequences if he did not stop selling ‘sasti roti’. “I rushed to the police station for complaint, but police did not take any action against them,” he said. However, he said he would continue selling a 100-gram ‘roti’ at Rs1.50 every day and 99 paisas only on Fridays. Rawalpindi-Islamabad Naanbais Association President Khawas Khan Jadoon told ‘The News’ that it was bad to threat any one, but he should have sold a ‘roti’ for Rs2 according rate fixed by the city administration. The business of ‘tandoors’ was already suffering and I can’t understand how he is selling a ‘roti’ at Rs1.50. Deputy District Officer Revenue and In Charge ‘Sasta Tandoors’ Arshad Warraich told ‘The News’ that they would open another 1,000 ‘sasta tandoors’ in Rawalpindi district in some days to provide more relief of public. The city administration would take action against such ‘sasta tandoors’ that are taking ‘atta’ on subsidised rates, but are selling a ‘roti’ at higher rates, but it will not take action against such ‘tandoors’ that are selling ‘roti’ at Rs1.50 or Rs1. He said ‘roti’ and ‘naan’ would be sold at cheaper rates than Rs2 in all ‘tandoors’ very soon. Mumtaz Anwar, a resident of Gharibabad said, “this situation is good for the people as they are getting ‘sasti roti’.” http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=145705 |
