LHC allows dances in stage dramas
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday allowed dances in theatrical performances and disposed of the intra-court appeal which challenged an earlier decision by an LHC single bench.
The bench consisting of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Syed Asghar Haider ruled that “situational and sequential” dances were allowed subjected to scrutiny by the censor panel. Advocate General Khawaja Haris submitted that the Punjab government favoured part of the single bench which banned obscene dances, but it did not support a complete ban on stage dances. Stage-drama producer Zaheer Hussain Adil had moved the appeal, assailing the single bench’s order. The petitioner submitted that the judgment of the single bench was in conflict with an earlier judgment of the LHC, which, according to him, stated that songs and dances in theatrical performances might not be entirely banned. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg13_4 |
