Fed Govt Employees H Foundation (FGEHF) has failed to acquire land for Sector G-14
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) has failed to acquire land for Sector G-14 despite the passage of five years, when it launched the sector and received full installments.
The inordinate delay in acquisition of land by FGEHF has almost doubled the cost of plots and built-up property in Sector G-14, a source in the foundation told this news agency. The sector was launched for federal government employees by FGEHF in 2003 to meet the growing demand of housing units in the federal capital but after a lapse of five years the foundation has failed to acquire land due to tussle with the land owners, hindering development work in sub-sectors G-14/1, 2 and 3. The federal government employees have decried the inordinate delay in acquisition of land and the increase in shape of built up property as majority of them, particularly the retired people are not in a position to arrange the huge amount. “I had to sell my car and even gold of my wife to deposit the required amount of the plot and now how can I arrange the huge amount of built up property,” said a retired employee Abdul Qayyum. “Building an apartment or a small house in the federal capital is just a dream for a government employee,” said a government employee Ahmed Bilal. The sources said on the directives of Ministry of Housing and Works the FGEHF had expedited its efforts for an early completion of land acquisition in Sector G-14/1,2,3. Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) of the district administration was asked to settle the issue of land acquisition so that development work in the sub sectors of G-14 could be completed well in time, they said. A team of Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) has been given the task to complete the assessment of built-up property and similarly hand over the possession of vacant land. But so far the process has not been finalised by the concerned quarters, they added. Moreover, the FGEHF has urged the concerned authority to take notice of the illegal construction in the sub sectors of G-14. The Phase IV housing scheme in sectors G-14/1, 2, 3 and G-15/3, 4 was launched in 2003, having approximately 6,000 plots of different sizes. The acquisition of land was expected to be finalised during 2007 but due to tussle with the landowners about cost of land and built-up property it was delayed. They hoped that a meeting of landowners would be held with high officials of Ministry of Housing and Works next week in the office of Chief Commissioner Islamabad to settle the dispute and after getting possession of the land development work would be started very soon. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...09_pg11_13 |
