UN should have heard Jamat-ud-Dawa as well: Lahore High Court
A FULL bench of the Lahore High Court hearing a habeas corpus petition against detention of Jamat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed and other leaders on Friday observed that the United Nations should consider the rights of peoples as the JD was an organization established in the name of human rights.

The UN should have afforded an opportunity of hearing to JD leaders before imposing restrictions on them, observed the bench headed by Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

Justice Hasnat Ahmad Khan and Justice Zubda-tul-Hussain were other members of the three-member bench.

The bench adjourned proceedings as arguments of petitioner’s counsel will continue on May 12.

Earlier, AK Dogar in his arguments said that the UN had a biased policy towards Muslim countries and violates its own principles as had happened in the case of JD.

He repeated his contention that the United Nations in its resolutions did not seek detention of JD leaders and even the ban on their travel violated Article 15 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The bench is hearing petition against detention of Hafiz Saeed and Col ® Nazir Ahmad of JD. Four other leaders who were house detained following the resolutions of UN had already been released by a review board of Lahore High Court.
