ITP tightens noose for speed violators through radars
Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Islamabad Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has tightened up their existing system to check over-speeding and the new strategy leaves little room for violations to escape punishment. ITP has 80 radars for speed checking but only 15 are being actively used because sources said the department lacks personnel to fully operate the system. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri told APP that efforts are underway to put more staff on the speed-checking job through adjustments. “We hope to maximise the use of radars in order to tighten the noose and ensure that not a single violation goes unpunished,” he said. In addition to the better utilisation of the radars, it has been decided to depute personnel around 2-3 kilometres away from a checkpoint to get hold of the violators, who flee after being checked. Another tool being employed to achieve the objective is the use of database on registered vehicles being maintained by the ITP. “ITP already has a database of 250,000 vehicles registered within Islamabad while the data of vehicles registered in other cities is being updated,” Dr Temuri said. “If any speed crazy manages to escape, he will be traced through the database and a traffic cop will knock at his door. We shall not let anyone take the traffic rules lightly,” Dr Temuri warned http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=179568 |
