Rs 2.18bn Saddar Town budget announced
By Irfan Aligi KARACHI: Saddar Town’s surplus budget for the fiscal year 2009-10 was announced with an overall outlay of Rs 2.18 billion. The tabulation of the receipts shows a sum of Rs 1,090,574,940 while on the canvas of the expenditure a sum of Rs 1,090,121,700. Thus, the surplus funds were manifested with a sum of Rs 453,340. While making his formal speech at the Saddar Town Council, Saddar Town Nazim Muhammad Dilawar informed the house that Saddar Town would gain a sum of Rs 888,300,000 from the City District Government Karachi and Sindh government while the Saddar Town would generate a sum of Rs 169,860,000 through its indigenous resources. Saddar Town has an opening balance of Rs 32,414,940. The major receipts would include Rs 377,500,000 through matching grant in lieu of octroi and zilla tax, Rs 450,000,000 from property tax, Rs 10,000,000 from conservancy tax, Rs 10000000 from advertisement tax and Rs 5,100,000 from other taxes. The arrears of different taxes (capital income) would be Rs 35,700,000. This makes total receipts of Rs 888,300,000. In addition to these receipts, Saddar Town would also generate a mentionable sum of Rs 169,860,000. Dilawar said that on the expenditure profile, Saddar Town would spend Rs 439,325,500 on establishment, Rs 362,829,200 on contingencies, Rs 37,067,000 on repair and maintenance and Rs 350,900,000 on development works. A sum of Rs 150,0000 has been allocated for sanitation, Rs 48,600,000, Rs 215,000,000, Rs 4,500,000 for Building and Repair and Rs 80,000,000 have been allocated for Mechanical and Electrical work. Highlighting the challenges and the achievements during the past four years, Dilawar pointed out that Saddar Town is located in the centre of the city, hence it faces various challenges but the leadership has successfully resolved many issues while adding that the Signal Free Corridor-III and the multi-storey car-parking plaza are historical achievements of the town. Rs 500.54m for Gulberg Town KARACHI: Gulberg Town Nazim Muhammad Kamal Malik presented the surplus Rs 500.54 million budget 2009-10 at the Gulberg Town Council, which was approved with a majority of votes. Gulberg Town Naib Nazim Saeed Ahmed Siddiqui had convened the budget session. The over all outlay of budget is worth Rs 210.23 million for aspect of development while the non-development profile amounts to Rs 290.18 million. In his budget speech, Malik said that Gulberg Town has suffered more than any other town as the Sindh government has retrenched the octroi and zilla tax (OZT) feedings to the town more than any other town while adding that the entire OZT amount comes to Rs 290.24 million. Malik said that Gulberg Town would spend Rs 140.68 million on sanitation and beautification of Gulberg Town. staff report Rs 440.44m for Baldia Town KARACHI: Baldia Town Nazim Kamran Akhtar presented the annual budget for the fiscal year 2009-10 worth Rs 440.44 million, which was approved by Baldia Town Council. The budget details manifest savings of Rs 87144. The budget has allocated Rs 22.99 million for development work, which exceeds 50 percent of the total budget. In his budget speech, Akhtar said that Baldia town has focused on repair, maintenance and construction of roads for the next year for which a sum of Rs 15.45 million has been allocated while the allocations for parks are worth Rs 10.5 million. In his formal address to the Baldia Town Council, Akhtar said that for the first time in the history of Baldia Town, a sum of Rs 30.5 million is allocated for the establishment of a female park. staff report Rs 650.35m for Bin Qasim Town KARACHI: Bin Qasim Town Nazim Jan Alam Jamot presented the annual budget 2009-10 worth Rs 650.35 million, which was approved by the Bin Qasim Town Council with a majority of votes. The budget details showed savings of Rs 1.9 million. During his budget speech, Jamot informed the council that Bin Qasim Town would spend Rs 460 million while Rs 110.6 million have been allocated for the annual development programme. Jamot also said that Bin Qasim Town would earn Rs 20 million from collection of cow dung and from production of biogas produced from it. Bin Qasim Town would spend Rs 350 million on the ongoing development work while Rs 1.1 million would be spent on new development projects. staff report Rs 82.99m for Gadap Town KARACHI: Gadap Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch presented the budget for 2009-10 with an overall outlay of Rs 82.99 million in the Gadap Town Council. The budget session was presided over by Naib Nazim Abdul Sattar Brohi. The budget was unanimously approved and declared people friendly. Speaking on the occasion, Baloch said that the budget 2009-10 is comparatively 27.35 percent higher than the previous budget which was Rs 651718521. The City District Government Karachi and Sindh government owe Rs 25.24 million to Gadap Town and this has been pending for the last four years.
