Family held for drug-trafficking: Musharraf promises to ‘talk to Saudis’
LAHORE: Former president Pervez Musharraf has called Raees Ahmed, head of a Pakistani family recently detained in Saudi Arabia for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into the kingdom, sources told Daily Times late on Friday night. Sources said that the former president phoned Raees and assured him that he would use his influence with the Saudi government to help with their release. The family, which was detained after Saudi customs officials found heroin concealed in slippers among their luggage, has repeatedly insisted they are innocent, saying the slippers were handed to them by their travel agent. The agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain and his family are already in police custody in Karachi. staff report
