No research, just fun: Sindh Fisheries’ research unit used as picnic hut
KARACHI: A research unit of the Sindh Fisheries Department, located at Hawkesbay beach, is being utilised as a picnic hut, Daily Times has learnt. The Shrimp and Fin Fish Seed Production Unit, which works under the Directorate of Fisheries Sindh Research and Development, was seen being used by an employee of the unit as a picnic spot for his family. The research unit is located very close to the beach, and therefore, it serves as a “great spot” to hang out for picnickers. The family of around 20-30 people was spread all over the unit, enjoying themselves and using the furniture and bathrooms in the premises. A low-level employee of the unit, also present at the spot, was perturbed by the way the place was being misused. “There was hardly any work being carried out at the research unit, which has a strength of more than 50 workers,” he told Daily Times. “The employees sit idle most of the times as the research unit was overstaffed, with ten men hired for one man’s work,” he said. The employee, who was enjoying a picnic at the unit with his family, said they use this place whenever they come here. While admitting that the unit could not be used as a picnic spot, he said, “Contact our deputy director Ishaqi Sahib if you want to use this place for a picnic.” mushfiq ahmad
