Existing water pipelines to be replaced: CDA
Islamabad: Capital Development Authority (CDA) will initiate a project at a cost of Rs11 billion to replace the existing underground water supply system in the federal capital in the next seven months.

According to Director General Water Management CDA Sanaullah Aman, “Under this plan, all pipelines lying underground carrying water will be replaced and a more robust network will be spread in their place to ensure smooth supply of water to the residents.”

Talking to APP, he said the Planning Commission is being approached for the project’s approval, while there is likelihood that the project would be funded by CDA’s Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and possibly a French Company that is also showing interest in donating funds to replace the water supply system.

According to the water management DG, the entire project, divided into phases and spreading over three years, would cost a total amount of Rs11 billion and ensure uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Islamabad, free from the present hindrances, including loadshedding and illegal connections, which either stops the water supply altogether or reduces the amount of this essential commodity considerably.

Elaborating on this further, he said CDA intends to launch a campaign against illegal water connections. “All illegal borings will be done away with through this vigorous campaign,” he explained.

The director general also apprised that penalties would be imposed on the erring citizens, found guilty of wasting drinking water. He, however, did not give details about how the approved plan would cover the imposition of penalties on those guilty of water wastage.
