Clinton Foundation to build 5,000 MW solar power station near Pak border
LAHORE: The Clinton Foundation will create a solar park to generate more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity close to India’s border with Pakistan, The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday. Gujarat state’s energy minister Saurabh Patel told the paper that foundation officials had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build the world’s largest solar power station near Pakistan border. The project is one of up to 40 schemes aimed at transforming the desert border with Pakistan into the world’s biggest solar energy hub, it reported. The paper quoted Patel as saying that the Indian government had allocated 1,500 hectares of land for the project and would also offer financial incentives for companies that begin generating electricity before December 2010. The development emerged on Wednesday after the Indian government unveiled plans to invest £11 billion in new solar plants. daily times monitor
