PTCL’s broadband revenue surges 219% in 1QFY10

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecomm-unication Company Limited (PTCL) aggressive business strategies for the expansion of broadband services has increased its growth by 219 percent in first quarter of 2009-10 as compared with the same quarter of last financial year. The revenue earned in the broadband sector has posted triple digit growth as it stood at Rs 830 million in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (1QFY10). The revenue from broadband continued to grow and was twice higher than the same period last year because of increased number of subscribers. The triple digit growth of broadband segment has contributed to 5.7 percent of the company’s overall revenue of July-Sep 2009. Revenue of the company stood at Rs 14.5 billion, 13 percent lower from last year. PTCL officials said that the company has firmed it focused on the broadband sector, which has posted significant expansion particularly since the second quarter of 2007-08 when it targeted educational sector with student discount packages. Also the services of Smart TV, introduced in late 2007, is also getting popularity among the customers and contributed a handsome share in the overall revenue of the country, they said and added the marketing strategy in corporate sector has helped the company to grab the local market. Convergence of broadband and voice telephony in an integrated tariff, doubling of user bandwidth for DSL users in the same price has increased its subscribers’ growth. It has also launched wireless broadband using 3G technology, unified call rate for all on-net calls with enhanced call duration and introduction of various value added services specially for corporate segment like.
