Foreigners violating law? LHC seeks reports from Interior ministry, Islamabad IG
LHC seeks reports from Interior ministry, Islamabad IG
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the Interior Ministry and the Islamabad inspector general on Friday to submit reports on violations allegedly committed by US and Dutch nationals. Watan Party Punjab President Hasham Shaukat Khan had moved the LHC on Thursday, requesting legal action against US and Dutch nationals who were roaming the streets carrying heavy weapons and assaulting Pakistani citizens. Barrister Zafarullah, the petitioner’s counsel, cited different reports stating that weapons were seized from US and Dutch nationals. In other incidents, diplomats and marines of both countries beat up locals. He said the accused were set free without initiating any action against them for violating the law of the land. He said diplomats did not enjoy any immunity from criminal acts, even under Article 29 of the Vienna Convention, 1961. He asked the court to order the registration of criminal cases against all foreign nationals who were apprehended with illegal weapons. He also requested that a list of all US and Dutch nationals who were working in Pakistan should be presented in the court. staff report http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_14 |
