Peshawar: NWFP CM approves housing scheme for employees

Bureau report PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti has approved the allotment of plots to the dependents of slain provincial government employees on the pattern of the scheme announced for the police department. Under the scheme, plots of land in Peshawar would be allotted to the dependents of the employees, killed in terrorism and sabotage incidents while on duty. According to the proposed formula, the dependents of employees of BPS-1 to 10 will be allotted five-marla plots each, BPs-11 to 16 10-marla plots and the dependents of employees of BPS-17 and above would be allotted one kanal plots each. The scheme was announced keeping in view the possible threats to the lives of employees due to the present activities of terrorists and anti-state elements in the province. Meanwhile, the chief minister has approved certain amendments in the policy guidelines of drinking water schemes under Social Action Programme. According to the amendment in respect of the operation and maintenance of these schemes, the following proposals have been made part of the policy guideline. All the completed drinking water supplies scheme in rural areas shall be operated and maintained Public Health Engineering Wing of Works & Services Department while all completed drinking water supplies schemes in urban areas shall be operated by the concerned TMA and Local Area Development Authority. Necessary post of operation staff will be provided in all completed water supplies schemes on need basis as per standard yard sticks of the defunct PHED practiced prior to promulgation of LGO 2001. Provision for the cost of land for development of water source shall be made in the PC-1 to discourage monopoly of the landowner in recruitment of operation staff, said a handout. Suspends three TMA Mardan officials: NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti ordered suspension of three officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administration in Mardan on Saturday. Taking a serious notice of the use of sub-standard materials in the development projects under ‘Taamir Sarhad Programme’, the chief minister expressed his dissatisfaction over the ongoing development project in various union councils in the constituencies in Mardan district.
