Gilani, Nawaz set to discuss Balochistan package today
* Repeal of 17th Amendment, 58 (2b), implementation of Charter of Democracy also likely to be taken up during meeting
By Zulfiqar Ghuman ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif will meet today (Thursday) at a luncheon to discuss the proposed Balochistan package. However, sources in both parties said there was a great probability that other issues, such as the repeal of 17th Amendment and 58 (2b) and the implementation of the Charter of Democracy, would also come under discussion. “Everybody knows that the prime minister has invited Nawaz to take him into confidence on the proposed Balochistan package. But there is every possibility that other political issues will be discussed as well,” said a PML-N leader, asking not to be named. Similarly, a PPP leader, while endorsing the point of view of the PML-N leader, said whenever senior leaders meet, they discuss all issues facing the country and tried to find a way forward. “Since the repeal of the 17th Amendment and 58 (2b) are the talk of the town now-a-days, they will certainly be discussed in the meeting,” he said. If Nawaz agrees to the Balochistan package and promises to support it, the package would then be brought before the joint sitting of parliament for approval as announced by the prime minister. The PPP leader also told Daily Times that besides the Balochistan package, the prime minister would also take the PML-N chief into confidence over the ongoing military operation in South Waziristan. Opposition Leader Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar and Khawaja Asif, Raza Rabbani, Babar Awan, Syed Khursheed Shah and Raja Pervez Ashraf are likely to attend the meeting. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_10 |
