Thackeray takes on Tendulkar on his statement “Mumbai belongs to India”
LAHORE: Indian extremist organisation Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray on Monday slammed cricketer Sachin Tendulkar over the latter’s ‘Mumbai for all’ remarks and asked him to refrain from politics and concentrate on playing cricket, The Times of India reported. Thackeray said there was no need for the cricketer to take a “cheeky single” and hurting the Marathi psyche by moving to the pitch of politics. “By making these remarks, you have got run out on the pitch of Marathi psyche. You were not even born when the ‘Marathi Manoos’ got Mumbai and 105 Marathi people sacrificed their lives to get Mumbai,” he said. In a rebuff to the “Marathi Manoos” plank of Shiv Sena, Tendulkar had said on Friday that Mumbai was for all Indians. “Mumbai belongs to India. That is how I look at it. I am a Maharashtrian and am extremely proud of that, but I am an Indian first,” Tendulkar said. daily times monitor http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_10 |
