Karachi: 1st independent women police station, helpline in city
KARACHI: The first independent women police station and a 24-hour women accessible helpline 1213 has been set up at Saddar police station on Shahrah-e-Faisal in order to halt domestic violence and harassment.
National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza inaugurated the police station on Thursday. The speaker said the purpose of setting up a women police station in Karachi is to allow easy access to oppressed and aggrieved women to the doors of justice and investigate cases in which they are either the victim or the accused. She said it is the first independent police station, where cases and investigation could be probed. In the past women police stations were only an extension of other police stations. She said the police helpline 1213 would provide immediate help to women, who were being victimised and harassed. With the assistance of Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid’s legal aid committee, the government would also provide legal assistance to the helpline complainant. ppi http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg12_4 |
