Illegal buildings: LDA officials warned of action
F.P. Report ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday observed that severe action shall also be taken against those LDA officials who were allegedly involved in the construction of illegal buildings in Lahore. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan and comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery while hearing a number of petitions filed by affected plaza owners observed that illegal buildings were constructed in connivance of officers of LDA and government of Punjab. LDA's counsel informed the court that buildings rules were formulated in 1984 then in 1997 and for the last time, the building rules were formulated in 2003. He informed the court that they have been working in accordance with the court's directions. "According to the rules three story or maximum 38 feet height is allowed to construct", he added. He informed that Ahad Plaza constructed ten stories after taking NOS from LDA. "There was an agreement signed between LDA and the owners of Ahad Plaza to construct maximum 70 feet high building", he added. Justice Shakirullah Jan remarked that NOC was the sheer violation of set rules of LDA therefore the official involved in such kind of violations will have to face the music. A.K.Dogar the counsel for affected owners of buildings, argued before the court that the official of LDA and government were allegedly involved in allowing illegal construction in the city. He informed the court that the affected owner of those buildings have face a incompansatable loss of their business and property. He prayed before the court to take action against those officiers of LDA and government of Punjab who were involved in this corruption. Further hearing was adjourned till today (Thursday).
