World can't remain aloof from flood affectees' plight: CM
LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that world community cannot remain aloof from the plight of the flood affectees in Pakistan in the present circumstances.
Chief Minister while talking to Syrian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Ali Mohra during a meeting in Multan on Saturday said people’s anger would result in extremism if the responsibility of relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees were not discharged effectively. He said rich and developed countries of the world should display the same spirit for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affectees, which they demonstrated at the time of earthquake in 2005. Shahbaz thanked the Syrian government and people for their assistance to the flood affectees. Later, the Chief Minister visited different flood-hit areas of South Punjab. Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa accompanied him. Addressing the calamity-stricken people at various places, the Chief Minister announced that Punjab government has decided to provide 10,000 more tents for displaced persons. He said he will personally deliver the cheques of financial aid to flood affectees. Later, addressing a meeting of district administration and assembly members in Rahim Yar Khan, he directed the officials not to confine their relief activities to their administrative limits. |
