Testing the patience of public!
These triple underpasses on the ‘Shaheed-e-Millat Road’, part of the much broader road projects launched by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in the federal capital, would be unique in the sense that these would be having ‘triple inaugurations’ as well!

Not that we don’t appreciate the hard work that the CDA is making the contractors to put in the projects to give it a ‘nice look’ in addition to the comforts these underpasses have provided to all type of motorists.

We also must not be miserly in appreciating the authority for cutting down the ‘travel time’, especially for those who always seem to be in a rush to reach their offices in the mornings and back home in the afternoons.

However, there are still certain irritants the general public is confronted with in negotiating with the ‘maze’ of ‘underpasses’, ‘by-passes’, ‘diversions’, ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ which at times become so difficult to understand for them. But we believe that with the passage of time they will get used to all this.

What is more serious is the fact that the after a delayed ‘inauguration’ of this series of ‘underpasses’ the concerned officials in the CDA realised it so very late as to how bad the quality of the road and it was hardly up to the mark as the ride through this part of the road was pretty bumpy.

So, these ‘underpasses’ were closed for traffic to start re-carpeting of this part of the roads. We are not sure if extra money was made available to the contractor for this purpose or not. After some time this part of the ‘Shaheed-e-Millat’ Road was reopened for traffic. No problem. It happens and after all it is human to err.

Shortly after the contractor started installing streetlights and drawing necessary ‘line work’ that once again led to disturbance in the flow of traffic. However, that was done somewhat quickly and it gave these underpasses a better look as well. Well, we should not be too critical. After all this was done for the benefit of the public.

Then, some time later those concerned with the project realised all of a sudden that the whole concrete structure presented a very rough look and decided to resurface the cemented part of the project. The contractor once again deployed a lot of manpower and created scaffoldings to carry out the necessary work.

Only the launch of this part of the project once again caused serious inconvenience to the motorists, and there are a lot of them because it is one of the busiest roads of the city as most of the public transport passes through this route.

Well, we believe that now is the time that somebody in the CDA should cast a serious glance towards all this and try to find out as to ‘what the heck is going on here?’ Because, isn’t it like testing the patience of public a little bit too far!
