German firm offers to produce gas, electricity from garbage
LAHORE: A German energy company has offered Pakistan to install energy plants, which can produce electricity, fertiliser and gas from garbage, sewage and animal manure. A representative of the AEV company, Javaid Malik, told APP on Sunday that the gas produced in the plants was the best alternative to CNG and it could be used in vehicles. He said that energy experts believed that one megawatt of electricity could be produced from 100 metric tonnes of garbage which could be enough for 100 villages and 50 tube wells. He said that about 5,000 metric tonnes of garbage was produced only in Lahore, which could produce several hundred megawatts of electricity. He said that more than 5,000 energy plants were already working in Germany and the number of the plants in China was in million. “It depends on the government whether it wants the plants to produce electricity or gas,” he added. He urged the government to utilise the latest technology to overcome the energy crisis in the country. Javaid said the AEV had presented a proposal to the Lahore Cantonment Board to install a plant in the city as a pilot project and later the network could be extended to other cities and villages. He said the energy plants would be helpful in producing electricity and gas, as well as natural fertiliser. He appealed to the government to take steps to introduce the latest technology in the country to overcome the energy crisis. |
