Lahore: Excessive billing by LESCO: LHC extends interim relief to MTHS
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC), extending interim relief to the Model Town Housing Society (MTHS) until October 31, barred the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) from disconnecting power supply to the society.
Earlier, the court had directed LESCO to submit a report by Monday over the issue of excessive billing to the MTHS, but it failed to do so within the given time. However, the court extended the relief and directed LESCO to file its report till hearing. The MTHS, through its counsel Mian Iftikhar, said that the society received an average bill of Rs 40 million per month, but it was sent a bill of Rs 120 million without any justification. The counsel pointed out that LESCO had not informed the society under what law and for what reasons it was charging the excessive amount. He said that the society had already sent a cheque of Rs 40 million to LESCO to pay the bill. The counsel, on October 21 (the previous hearing), pointed out that it was the last day to pay the bill, and in case of non-payment of the excessive bill, the power supply to the society might be disconnected. The court, after hearing the society’s counsel’s arguments, passed an interim order and stopped LESCO from disconnecting the electricity of the Model Town Society. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg13_2 |
