Punjab: ‘Rs 6,760m being spent on urban development’: minister
PUNJAB Senior Minister Raja Riaz has said that the government is spending Rs6,760 million on sustained urban development to improve living standards of the people in the province.
He was talking to a delegation of public representatives in his office, said a handout issued on Monday. Apprising the delegation of the reforms agenda and policies of the government to increase the economic growth in urban areas, he said a priority was given to the provision of adequate and efficient services in five city districts through financial support to the development authorities like Wasa and the city district governments. He said Rs30 million were being provided for identification, master planning and development of relatively smaller cities of the province, adding that the move would discourage migration and reduce pressure on civic amenities of in the big cities. Raja Riaz said the government was also giving priority to providing basic services like water supply, sewerage and roads in Katchi Abadis with an amount of Rs 2 billion.
