Pakistani institute wins regional final of Enterprise Award
Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Karachi: Government Vocational Training Institute, Jhang recently won the regional final of the British Council’s Enterprise Award held in London. The student team represented Pakistan at the regional finals on 9-11 March 2009 after winning the national challenge in Pakistan in September last year. The team prepared a blueprint called ‘evacuate plastic bags’ to overcome challenges faced by communities due to the pollution plastic packaging creates in cities. The Enterprise Award Challenge is part of British Council’s Skills for Employability programme and involves students aged 16-21 from Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The team won £2,000 in London and now wishes their project is implemented in Pakistan through public-private partnership. “We will come back to Pakistan and try to establish this project in our cities,” the team says. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=167556 |
