Rawalpindi: Rs 1.6bn approved for filtration plant upgradation
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has approved Rs 1.60 billion for the upgradation of a water filtration plant installed in Rawal Town. Sources in the Rawal Town Municipal Administration told this news agency on Wednesday. They said Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had proposed the project to the Punjab government. They said the government had directed the WASA to start work on the project from July 1 in consultation with relevant authorities. They said stinking smell and contaminations would be removed from the plant. They said sewages and waste matter reaching Rawal Lake from adjoining slums, residential areas and poultry farms had decreased efficiency of the filtration plant installed in 1962. They said drinkable water would be supplied to 0.8 million population from the filtration plant after its thorough overhauling. online
