Shahbaz Sharif reviews pace of projects’ progress
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting which reviewed the pace of progress on the projects of rehabilitation of Multan Road, widening of Canal Road and Canal flyover. Secretary Communication and Works Maj.® Azam Salman informed about the pace of progress of the projects.Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that transparency, quality and speedy completion of development projects are the hallmark of Punjab government. He said that the culture of working on the projects during night time has been promoted so that people should not face any problem.Expressing his indignation over the delay in construction of Multan Road, the Chief Minister questioned the officers that like Kalma Flyover, why the work cannot be carried out with the same speed on this project.He directed that all under-construction sections of Multan road should be completed by November 30 for redressing the peoples’ problems.He also directed that the work on the projects of Canal Flyover, widening of Canal Road and rehabilitation of Multan road should be carried out round the clock in three shifts and a comprehensive plan should also be evolved for smooth flow of traffic during construction of these projects.He also directed that a plan should be submitted within a week after considering all aspects of construction of service road on Multan road. He said that there should be bus-stop and pedestrian bridges of best designs on Canal Road.He said that best infrastructure is of great importance for the rapid development and promotion of economic and trade activities and Punjab government is paying special attention to the improvement of infrastructure in the province.The meeting was told that the work on the project of widening of Canal Road is being carried out in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court. Supreme Court had ordered that during widening of Canal Road, four new trees should be planted in place of cutting one tree. However, by implementing the decision of the Supreme Court, new plants more than 16 times have been planted against cutting of one tree. The meeting was told that five hundred trees have been cut during this project and eight thousands new plants have been planted in their place. Members National and Provincial Assembly, Chairman Planning & Development, Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner Lahore, Director General PHA, Sector Incharge of NLC and officers concerned present in the meeting.
