CDA retrieves 200-kanal land from encroachers in Margalla Town
Islamabad The Enforcement Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday carried out a major operation in a ‘katchi abadi’ of Margalla Town to retrieve 200 kanals of land. The five-hour operation, which started at 10 a.m., was participated by 200 staff members of the Directorate of Enforcement along with 70 personnel of Islamabad Police. The CDA director (enforcement), a magistrate and the Chak Shahzad Police Station SHO supervised the operation. Heavy machinery, including two bulldozers and an excavator, was used in the operation. No untoward incident was witnessed during the whole activity. It may be pointed out here that on the orders of CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal, the civic body is moving ahead with its action against illegal construction and encroachments in Islamabad. An official of the CDA told ‘The News’ that the illegal occupants in Margalla Town, Phase-II, had been given a warning to vacate the CDA land and demolish illegal structures themselves. “The operation was launched after expiry of 10 days of deadline,” he said. He said the enforcement team demolished 80 huts and retrieved 200 kanals of land from encroachers. He said the civic body is continuing indiscriminately with its operation against illegal construction and encroachments in the city. The CDA has asked encroachers and illegal occupants to abide by the law or face action as per law. Meanwhile, the CDA chairman directed the Engineering Wing officials to speed up the ongoing construction work on six bridges. He also directed them that the plantation and landscaping work should go side by side with construction and expansion work to beautify Kashmir Highway. He asked the Engineering Wing officials to ensure timely completion of construction and expansion work without any compromise on quality and ease of commuters and uninterrupted traffic flow should be given a priority during the ongoing construction work. All possible measures, including provision of alternative passages and installation of signboards, should be taken in this regard, the chairman directed. |
