Environement minister seeks timeline for Mega CNG Bus Project
ISLAMABAD: Environment Minister Hameedullah Jan Afridi on Tuesday asked the Planning Commission and Petroleum Ministry to submit an express timeline to his ministry for the execution of Mega CNG Bus Project in nine major cities of the country, including the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, within one week. The federal government plans to run 8,000 CNG buses in nine mega cities of the country, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and modalities for financing, import and running of the buses are being worked out. In this regard, the minister chaired a meseting attended by Secretary Environment Kamran Lashari, Additional Secretary Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, ENERCON Managing Director Faridullah Khan and representatives of the relevant ministries. Afridi said that the Environment Ministry would also take up the issuance of licences for CNG stations with the Petroleum Managing Director so as to control their mushroom growth and bring it under rules and regulations. He said his ministry wanted an unambiguous response of the Planning Commission (PC) and Petroleum Ministry to the execution of Mega CNG Bus Project. He further asked the Petroleum Ministry to reconfirm the availability of CNG for the buses. He asked the PC to provide timeline for submission of the revised PC-I of the project to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). staff report
