Maternal and neonatal mortality rates of three big hospitals, Polyclinic, PIMS, NICH
ISLAMABAD: The federal capital’s Polyclinic tops the list of the nationwide government hospitals with high maternal morality rate during pregnancy.
According to the Health Ministry figures, Polyclinic has reported 2.1 percent maternal mortality rate in 2009 compared with the previous year’s 2.1 percent. The hospital’s neonatal mortality rate also increased to 26.7 percent from 20.1 percent in 2008. As for Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, the maternal mortality rate also increased from 0.13 percent in 2008 to 0.9 percent in 2009. The neonatal mortality rate also witnessed an increase from 1.6 percent in 2008 to 1.9 percent 2009. The figures also show neonatal mortality rate of the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, at 22.4 percent in 2009 compared with previous year’s 18 percent.
