‘Colonisation of Govt Lands (Amend) Bill 2010’ approved
KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly (SA) on Monday unanimously approved the ‘Colonisation of Government Lands (Amendment) Bill 2010’ into law after discussing the matter and reconsideration of the bill.
An amendment passed previously ruled that the Sindh chief minister could allot government lands but if the allottee failed to start development work within four years, the matter would be referred to the cabinet for final decision. After the question hour Monday, Provincial Law Minister Ayaz Soomro suggested to withdraw the four-year limit from the previous amendment. Terming it against the rules of the business of provincial assembly, National People’s Party MPA Arif Mustafa Jatoi opposed the bill and maintained that the bill had been passed by the assembly a few days ago and should be forwarded to the provincial governor for his consent. After the signature of the governor, the law minister could table a move for further amendment in it, he added. Soomro, however, said the bill had been passed but not forwarded to the governor, so a move could be tabled for reconsideration. Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhrro told the house that he had not put his signature on the bill because the law minister had informed him that the provincial government wanted to withdraw the previous amendment. Jatoi could not be convinced and announced a walkout against the motion. The speaker gave the ruling for voting and the amendment was unanimously passed amid Jatoi’s walkout. Earlier, the law minister had put up a motion regarding the introduction of the ‘Sindh Civil Courts Amendment Bill’. The speaker ruled out for voting and the introduction of the bill was accepted unanimously. |
