Uplift projects: 'Punjab government is implementing comprehensive programme'

Punjab chief minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government is implementing a comprehensive programme for speedy development of the province and provision of basic amenities to the masses.

He said that special attention is being paid to infrastructure, education, health and other projects and work has been started on Bus Rapid Transit, a project initiated for the first time in the history of the country.

He stressed that the elected representatives should play an active role for the transparent and expeditious completion of development schemes to benefit the masses.

This was stated by the CM during a meeting with the assembly members of various districts, here Wednesday.

Speaking to the parliamentarians, the CM said they should come up with similar projects for uplifting the living standard of the people.

He said that Punjab government has paid special attention to meaningful measures and on education, health, social welfare and other sectors during the last four years.

Elaborating, he said Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Daanish Schools, Punjab Education Foundation, IT labs and other such projects are leaving a positive impact on the education sector.

He furthered that laptops are being distributed among the talented students, both boys and girls, in the province on merit, adding that distribution of one lakh 25 thousand (over 0.1 million) laptops among students will be completed by the end of next month.

Similarly, three lakh laptops will be given to brilliant students next year, he added.

The CM further said Punjab government has promoted transparency and corruption-free culture in the province while the policy of third party audit is being strictly implemented to ensure this in the execution of development schemes.

He said schemes such as Aashiyana Housing, Laptop, Yellow Cab Scheme as well as all projects are the examples of transparency.

He remarked that the dream of the poor and the common man to have his own house has been realised through Aashiyana Scheme, launched first time in the history of the country.

He said that self-employment scheme has been launched for provision of job opportunities to the educated youth and yellow cabs and interest-free loan is being given to youths.

He remarked that the projects of Punjab government aimed at welfare of the poor and common man are an important step towards transforming Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal, besides these projects will also help minimise divide between the rich and the poor.

The CM said Punjab government has the credit of upholding merit and recruitment in different departments purely on merit.

He noted that measures taken by the government for improvement of education sector are yielding positive results to promote literacy in every nook and corner of the province.

Earlier, the elected representatives apprised the CM of the development activities and problems of people of their respective areas.

The assembly members who met the CM, included Chaudhry Saud Majeed, Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, Chaudhry Nadim Abbas Rabera and former member Parliament, Naghma Mushtaq Lung.
