RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has plans to soon launch three projects worth of Rs 102.2 million to improve facilities at Sihala Police College.

Police source told Daily Times on Sunday that the government would start three new projects to modernise the existing facilities and security of the biggest police college in Asia.

New barracks, hostels: They said the government would provide Rs 86.7 million to build new barracks and hostels to accommodate 250 police personnel. The ground floor of the building would be expanded to 34,128 square feet covered area and the first floor would be built covering 25,264 square feet area. They said the new barracks and hostels were need of the hour, as the students were facing various problems due to shortage of space in present building of the college.

Balconies: They said 128 balconies would also be built in the new building. The sources said the college administration would get Rs 20 million for this purpose and the government would release 26 million in next year. They said the college administration had set a target to complete 50 percent construction work this year.

Tube wells: They said the college would get Rs 9.8 million for the construction of two tube wells to overcome the water shortage. They said the present water resources were insufficient to fulfill the requirement of the college. They said the administration had earmarked the place for tube wells construction within next six-months.

Security: “Keeping in view the current security threats and importance of the Sihala, the government would provide Rs 5 million to build a security wall around the college, which would be fenced as well,” said the sources. Two Santri posts and watchtower having ability to watch 6-kilometre long area would also be constructed, they said, adding, this project would be completed till June 2010.

They said presently, a number of students were getting training in various courses including the courses for assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors, inspectors, deputy superintendents and superintendents of police.
