‘Garment City to give quantum jump to exports’

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Garment City (FGC) will give a quantum jump to value-added garment exports from Faisalabad, said Kim Jackson, Director Sourcing of international chain store JC Penny.

She was visiting FGC near Khurrianwala, about 18 kilometers off here on Saturday. She said textile units in Faisalabad are producing best quality products at comparatively cheaper rates.

However, some of these units do not fulfill the basic benchmarks regarding social and environmental compliances. She said FGC has been designed to provide best infrastructure facilities. These facilities would be fully compatible with international social and environmental standards.

Hence, its products would be acceptable to all international store chains and markets, she added. Muhammad Iqbal Secretary Faisalabad Garment City Company (FGCC) said FGC would provide space to small and medium sized garment exporters. This project would play its role in enhancing garment exports in addition to generating new job opportunities for female workers. He also explained in details the steps taken to make this city fully functional within next couple of weeks. Jill Hamilton Assistant Manger Sourcing and Zeshan Nasir country manger JC Penny were also present during this visit.
