Shahbaz announces Rs 10m for national Hockey Team

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced a cash prize of Rs 10 million for the national hockey team and laying of Astro turf in Lahore for the promotion of hockey. He was addressing a reception hosted in honour of the national hockey team at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here.

He said that winning of gold medal by the national hockey team in Asian Games after 20 years was a matter of pride for the whole nation.

He said that the same spirit and courage demonstrated by the hockey players would be displayed for overcoming the problems and challenges being faced by Pakistan and collective efforts would be made for regaining its lost status.

He said that the victory of national hockey team despite heavy odds was a matter of joy for the whole nation. He said that the nation should bow before Allah in thanksgiving for this victory which had come at a time when the country was facing multiple problems, flood devastation, menace of terrorism and the foreign teams were reluctant to play in Pakistan.
