Senate committee takes notice of non-release of road funds
ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Communication has taken serious notice of the non-release of funds for construction of roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Committee convener, Senator Zahid Khan, warned that the committee would stage a sit-in against the prime minister in front of the Parliament House if the federal government did not release the required funds for the development of roads in the province. The committee meeting, held on Thursday, also issued a show cause notice to the additional secretary finance for not attending the meeting. Officials of the Planning Commission informed the committee that funds worth Rs 250 million had been released to the National Highway Authority, which would receive them soon. Ministry of Finance joint secretary told the committee that Rs 20 million had been released to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for road construction projects. Khan said that it was injustice with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that only Rs 900 million had been set aside for the province, whereas Rs 1,900 million had been allocated to Balochistan. |
