Work on Kalma underpass in progress

LAHORE : The officials of the departments concerned on Saturday started demolishing the median greenbelt (from Jeevan Hana intersection to Kalma Chowk) on the road leading from Barkat Market to Kalma intersection.

The officials who formally started work on Friday to construct Kalma Chowk underpass removed the greenbelt along with curved stones, precious plants and grass on the road stretch measuring about 300 metres.

“We have to accomplish this task up to Kalma Chowk till Sunday evening, in order to start digging work within next two days,” an official engaged in the work told Dawn on Saturday.

He said Punjab government had given a timeframe of 60 days for completion of the underpass.

Meanwhile, the engineering staff engaged in the Metro Bus Project has almost closed the Kalma Chowk intersection in order to construct the remaining stretch of the dedicated bus corridor, passing from Kalma Chowk on ground level under dual flyovers.

The traffic police have also issued a special traffic diversion plan in order to avoid congestions on the roads because of the underpass’s construction.
