Shahbaz opens Azadi Chowk flyover built in record time
LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Sunday inaugurated signal-free Azadi Chowk flyover and alternative route of new Circular Road, completed in a record period of 165 days at a cost of Rs 5.35 billion. The total length of flyover interchange is 2.53-km. Two lakh vehicles will benefit daily from this project and Rs 900 million will be saved annually in fuel. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Shahbaz Sharif said Azadi Chowk Project was completed in a short period of six months. He said not only best travelling facilities will be available from it but precious time will be saved and metro bus will also pass through it without any loss of time. He said: “We do not want a long march which ruins people but we will launch a long march to make Pakistan a developed and prosperous country”. The CM said Azadi Chowk Project will play an important role in the economic development as well as enhancing beauty of Lahore. He said after completion of this project, great national monuments including Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort and Minar-e-Pakistan will be saved from environmental pollution. Shahbaz Sharif said that Lahore is the city of lively people which has the honour of being heart of Asia and cultural capital of Pakistan. We all have to jointly make Lahore a city of beautiful parks, gardens and flowers, the CM said. He said in the past the PML-N government took special steps for making Lahore a beautiful and attractive city. He said promotion of education, health, transport, cleanliness activities and providing best infrastructure to people is the top priority of the Punjab government. The CM first inaugurated alternative route of Circular Road and later the Azadi Chowk flyover. A large number of people gathered on the occasion of inauguration of these two projects and raised slogans of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Zindabad, Dekho Dekho Kaun Aya-Sher Aya Sher Aya. The Chief Minister waived hands. He also took round of Circular Road and flyover in his vehicle and appreciated the standard of the project. The CM seeing the people in a large number stopped his vehicle at five different places without caring for security and mingled with them. The citizens shook hands with the CM and raised slogans. An elderly citizen said: “We are proud of Shahbaz Sharif as he is doing long march for the development of the country whereas “Khan Sahib” wants to launch long march for creating anarchy. He said the long march for ruining the country will flop badly and long march will become “Long Gawacha”. |
