Acquisition of land for H16 jail by CDA completed
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has complete land acquisition of 720 Kanals for Islamabad Model Prison, which would have a capacity for 2,000, prisoners.
While talking to APP a senior CDA official Asim Ali informed that CDA handed over the land to ICT administration after acquisition which has started construction work on it. Ali said that Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak-PWD) had constructed boundary wall of the prison at Rs130 million in this regard. He said that about five days ago 90 kanal lands out of the total 720 kanal was left to be acquired by the CDA which was attained lately. Official said that almost all the cases relating to succession and possession were finalised adding that sporadic cases may be left for the time being. While explaining the delay in acquiring land he responded that the civic body wants to clear the succession cases before dealing with the owners, so it took time to resolve. He further said that CDA had paid around 666.6 million to the landowners to acquire the land for this model jail. Islamabad police for a long time had been demanding a jail in the capital as they have to bring some hardened criminals from jails to courts for their trials so first phase of acquisition is completed he added. It is to mention that at first Islamabad Model Prison project was planned to be completed by the end of 2013 which was begun in 2011, however it was still on its way due to mismanagement of the authorities. Sector H16 near Islamabad-Lahore motorway toll plaza “Moza Noon “ Jhanghi Seydan village was the site for this model prison, and after taking possession of the land it is now transferred to the ICT administration for its construction though nothing can be said about the time frame in which this project would finally be completed. |
