MQM shuts down offices in Punjab
Agencies LAHORE: The Mutthida Quami Movement (MQM) has decided to close its provincial offices in Punjab following a lack of public's response. A senior leader of MQM in Punjab told SANA on condition of anonymity that the party top leadership phoned from London and directed them to close the central office in Lahore and all other offices of the party in the province immediately. He said during former president Pervez Musharrafs' rule, MQM set up its offices across the province but now the party leadership had barred all funds for the party's activities in the province. "We have been bearing the party's expenditure in terms of the office's rent, salaries of the employees and miscellanies expenditures from our pockets but continuous blocking of the funds has forced us to shut down the offices," he told. He said that almost all offices across the province were closed. He said that the party was spending millions of rupees on the party's promotion in the province but it could not catch people's attention. Another source aid the PML-Q strongly opposed former President Musharraf when he directed the MQM leadership to launch its Punjab chapter. It was the major reason that drove a wedge between MQM and PML-Q, the source said. the post |
